About the author
Uli is passionate about technology and fascinated by how it continually impacts the way we live our lives – from the way we communicate and work, to the way we learn. With experience working at some of the world's biggest tech companies, including IBM, Microsoft, Red Hat and Yahoo!, Uli frequently speaks at events and conferences on subjects such as data engineering, automation and distributed systems. He is also the founder of Electric Minds, a company that is looking to combine machine intelligence with human ingenuity to solve some of the most challenging problems we face today. Since 2020, Uli has been teaching at the National University of Singapore.
Why this book is for you
This is not a book about technology. Or is it? I guess it depends on how you look at it. What you will definitely not find here are pages and pages of code or technical explanations of how artificial intelligence works. You will find a lot of books and articles like that already, and there is nothing wrong with them. But this book is not for people who want to learn how to code or build AI systems. Instead, this book is about my experience with AI – how I started working with it, what I've created with it, and how it has changed the way I create. You can do that, too, and you don't need to be a programmer to do it.
I grew up close to Johannes Gutenberg's neighbourhood – you could say it was the Silicon Valley of the 15th century. The invention of the letterpress printing press sparked a global information revolution, and literally, led to an explosion of knowledge and culture. I have experienced first hand how the internet and personal computing have similarly transformed our world over the past few decades. And now, we are on the cusp of another such revolution – driven by artificial intelligence.
In this book, I want to take you on a journey into the world of AI – to show you what is possible with this technology, and how you can use it to enhance your own creativity and intelligence. I believe that AI will change the way we live, work, and create in ways that we cannot even imagine today. And I want to show you how you can be a part of that future.
